St Nicholas CE Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Term 6!

Dear Year 3 Team,

We hope you have had a lovely half-term break and enjoyed watching the St. Nicholas Musical.  We are so proud of how well the children engaged in the dancing!  This term we will be focusing on the Learning to Learn value of being REFLECTIVE and the Christian value of FORGIVENESS.

In maths, we will be looking at time and the properties of shape, as well as recapping what we have covered so far in the year.  In literacy we will immerse ourselves in the text ‘Gaslight’ by Eloise Williams and produce a piece of writing based on this historical setting. Children will also explore the power of persuasion in advertising and create their own advert based on healthy eating habits. In Science we will be learning all about plants. We will be identifying the trees and flowers that we can spot around Cottesmore as well as learning the names and functions of different parts of plants. We’ll also be nipping down to the allotment and seeing if Year 3 have got a green thumb or two! In geography we will learn about different countries within Europe, their climates and trade routes/economies and other key statistics. In coding we will make our own game on scratch and in PHSE we will learn about love, loss and memories.

Our PE sessions will continue to be on a Wednesday and Thursday this term and we will be practising the different skills required in a cricket and rounders match.  Please send the children to school in their PE kit, prepared for outdoor PE.

Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle and healthy snack to school every day together with weather appropriate clothing e.g. sun hats.  We also recommend that an ‘all day sunscreen’ is applied in the morning on warmer days. They will also require a change of shoes/wellies to wear on the field at break and lunchtime. Please ensure these are all clearly named.

As always, please get in touch via Class Dojo if you have any queries.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs. Hood, Mrs Hibbitt and Miss Harper
