Welcome

"Excellent teaching gives children the life chances they deserve... Enjoyment is the birthright of every child. The most powerful mix is the one that brings the two together. Children learn better when they are excited and engaged

- but what excites and engages them best is truly excellent teaching."

We are a busy, friendly school, with lots going on. If you choose to visit us, we trust you will find our school to be a very friendly and welcoming place with a caring Christian attitude towards each individual member of the team. We work hard to create an atmosphere where talents are fully developed and individual needs are met whilst preparing children for life in the 21st century. We are fully committed to personalised learning and teaching.

Our school was visited by an OFSTED inspection team in both 2013 and more recently in 2017.

During the formal feedback session with the Local Authority in 2013, to Diocese, staff and governors the lead inspector stated:-

“St Nicholas CEVA Primary School has achieved more progress in the last sixteen months that some schools ever achieve.”

“Amazing progress across all year groups.”

“Areas of the curriculum are inspiring, exceptional and hugely successful at ‘grabbing learners’.”

“Overall the quality of teaching is consistently good and there are lots of examples of really outstanding learning across the whole school.”

“Impeccable behaviour was observed across the school and if manners were included in the framework St Nicholas would be graded beyond outstanding.”

“Leadership is exceptional and inspiring.”

“The Governing Body is exceptional and adds to the school in many ways.”

In 2017 the initial feedback from the inspector was as follows:

  • The children are at the centre of this school.
  • In this school EVERYONE cares.
  • This is a friendly school at every level.
  • The school continues to be Good. It is at the very top end of good. Some aspects meet the outstanding criteria.
  • The more I walk around the school, the more I see the many initiatives there are and it show the creativity of the school.
  • Safeguarding systems are robust. Children feel safe. Procedures are thorough. Parents are happy.
  • There is a strong culture of safeguarding here.
  • You have a dynamic headteacher, and a very strong leadership team.
  • The school is developing middle leaders rapidly.
  • There is a strong sense of cohesion here and shared sense of direction.
  • Children are charming, and deeply reflective.
  • Very capable children and teachers. (“A strong teaching staff’)

This is just a flavour of some of the key messages taken from our formal feedback, but please read the rest of the reports to see why we are so proud.

Sustaining Excellence

Transforming Learning

In September 2013 Whissendine CE Primary, St Nicholas CEVA Primary and Ketton CE Primary began working together in a formalised collaboration in order to create a Multi-Academy Trust across the schools. Since then the Rutland Learning Trust has grown to include many more schools in both Rutland and Northamptonshire. A CEO was appointed to ensure the key priorities and strategic intent of the Trust is driven forward. Each school has a Headteacher who is responsible for the Leadership and Management of the school on a daily basis

As a dedicated team of teachers, support staff, Directors, parents and carers we work with love, professionalism and commitment on behalf of and with the pupils of Ketton, St Nicholas and Whissendine Church of England Primary Academies to provide educational provision of the very highest quality.
By ‘Working Together to Sustain Excellence and Transform Learning’ we believe that we can improve outcomes for our children - today, tomorrow and in the future.

Our shared vision and aims provide us with a robust self-evaluation framework through which we aim to develop every aspect of the children within our school. Our aims are deliberately positive and, we believe, encompass the structure, goals and Christian values we all share. They are a result of widespread consultations with all stakeholders:

Our Christian Ethos

Christian values and practice are at the heart of our shared life as Church of England Schools and they shape an enquiring and respectful approach to everything around us. We have strong, well established links with our local churches who contribute regularly to our schools programmes and we seek to learn about and from other faith-traditions in today’s world.

Across The Rutland Learning Trust we encourage our pupils to be inquisitive and passionate about their learning. We strive to develop confident, creative, self-assured, positive young people who love to learn, to contribute and to achieve.

Our inclusive learning environment also teaches our pupils to celebrate differences, help one another and promote a culture of tolerance and mutual respect. Our vision for each child is that they will work towards their personal best, in a caring atmosphere, which reflects the Christian values of our Academy. We encourage a strong community spirit, where we show consideration and support for each other and understand differences.

We have a dynamic and high performing team.
There is tremendous team spirit - we are all committed to the success of each of our Academies and we always seek to put the children’s best interests first.

We seek high levels of attainment and achievement in the core subjects and across a broad, creative curriculum, including a full suite of visits and visitors.
Memorable learning experiences are at the heart of all we do.
Every child deserves to be successful and our role is to help them blossom and believe everything is possible!
