During Year 1 your child will learn more complex sounds to help them read, spell and write with greater fluency. We encourage the children to listen very carefully to the sounds that they hear within words and match them with the sounds that we have worked with. As they progress through sound set 3 in our scheme the pronunciation of these sounds can become less obvious. Please encourage your child to use "pure sounds" as demonstrated on the presentation below. 
 

You can practise saying the sounds by downloading our phonic sounds PowerPoint presentation using the link below. This is useful if you are unsure of the correct pronunciation of each sound. Save the presentation to your computer and click ‘view slideshow’ to run the presentation. Click your left mouse button to cue each sound. It is quite a large file so please be patient as it may take some time to download. We hope you will find it useful!
