Measuring!
The children have been enjoying a range of measuring activities so far this term. At this stage, we tend to use 'non-standard measures' and compare and order items by their length or height. The children loved finding out 'how tall' they were and comparing themselves to find out who was the tallest and shortest.
As part of our work on Giants, we enjoyed reading the story of David and Goliath. The children were amazed to discover that Goliath was as tall as our classroom ceiling (9ft tall)! We made a lifesize model of Goliath and set children the challenge to find things in their environment that were the same size as Goliath. Armed with a piece of string, measuring 9ft, the children had lots of fun investigating and finding things as tall as Goliath! Have a look at our display in the corridor, just outside our classroom!
